It was an easy choice for Emily and Michael to pick Charlottesville for their wedding destination, after having deep ties to the University and sharing a history in Charlottesville together. With an afternoon wedding mass downtown, they selected Belle Haven, a private estate in Scottsville, VA to host their reception festivities, largely due to its expansive spaces and ability to offer different spaces for different parts of their day. Rather than have guests wait and join them for an evening reception, they chose to make a day of it, following up their early afternoon ceremony with an extended “garden party” style cocktail event. Guests sipped on Pimm’s Cups, played lawn games, and nibbled and lounged around the historic bank barn while a bluegrass band played for the afternoon. As twilight approached, their two-hundred-plus guests made their way over to a Sperry tent set on the Knoll, where chandeliers dripping with greenery were suspended over their twenty-eight-foot long head table. In between courses, folks danced to Southern rock, and ultimately capped off the night with a bonfire with their dearest friends.
